~Day 2• 91: Why so serious?

I was able to hang out with this little man tonight.  When I first walked in, JJ wasn't so sure about me.  You can tell he isn't around me much.  This needs to be remedied.  He knows Nick because he sees him almost every day.  I get to spend the whole day with him in a few weeks.  So I think we need some more bonding time before then.  I don't want to freak the kid out.

He had a little bit of a rough night.  He was cranky and tired and uncomfortable because he is teething.  He ended up falling asleep on me for about 20 minutes... WAY too early for his bedtime.  I must admit that I loved just sitting and holding him.  He really is the sweetest little guy... even if he doesn't know me.  I hope he didn't keep his parents up too late because of his little cat nap.

He was very serious for most of the night.  The little half grins above were about all I got out of him.  But I was taunting him with his squash on a spoon.  He was a good eater. I forget this stage. I'm used to the monkeys who can usually feed themselves.

After he had a little nap and got some food in him, he was a bit more happy.  He played on the floor for awhile and was having a good conversation with the caterpillar.  He wouldn't talk to me, but the bug received an earful.  And then daddy came home... He heard daddy's voice and perked up and of course gave dad all his smiles.  Which is as it should be.   I can't wait to keep him in a few weeks.

And this monkey... she stayed home from school again for the third day.  Her fever was very low this morning, and by the afternoon it was gone.  She and I ran to the library on my lunch hour.  We picked out a Barbie movie she could watch today.  And we grabbed some healthy lunch from the kids' favorite convenient store.  Cailee loves hot dogs.  So that is what she is having on the living room floor with Barbie playing.

After lunch, she laid down for at least a 90 minute nap.  the last three days she has been taking 2-4 hour naps.  Her little body was worn out.  When she got up and the time drew nearer for her brother and sister to come home, she had to go outside to see if they were coming.  She missed them.  When they finally got home, I noticed Brookie's feet.  They were absolutely black!!  Bottoms and tops!  She looked like she had walked through a pile of black ink or something.  It was nasty.  I made her go and wash them off right then.  ick.

I am planning on Cailee going  back to school tomorrow... Unless her fever returns.  She has missed three days this week.  Friday is a holiday.  It almost seems pointless to send her tomorrow.  Especially since all three kids are going to be out the whole week next week for my grandpa's funeral in Utah.  Cailee really can't afford to miss school.  I hope she doesn't fall too far behind.
