The day started out slow and relaxed. Then I received a phone call from the kids' school letting me know that Cailee was feeling sick and that she had a slight fever. So I went to get her. I brought her home and my dad was playing the piano when we walked in. Cailee just stood and listened to him play for a few minutes. I love this picture. It reminded me of when I would sit and listen to my dad play when I was young. I need to do this more at home I think so my kids can have these kinds of experiences more often. I don't take advantage of the time I have.
I brought Cailee home before my parents and I had lunch. Cailee had some lunch at school, but she was still hungry. She asked if she could have some eggs. Of course you can. So we decided that would be a good lunch to have today. I started cracking an egg and she asked me if I could crack eggs using one hand. Nope. I'm not talented. But Grandpa can do it. So we asked Grandpa, and this is how things played out:
1- Cailee cracks an egg, and does it well, except that some shell got in the bowl. Gpa helped pick out the shell.
2- Gpa cracks one egg with one hand while Cailee looks on.... totally fascinated.
3- Gpa shows Cailee the correct way to hold the egg with one hand so that it will break correctly.
4- Gpa shows Cailee how the shell breaks between the two fingers, and she gets down below his hand to see what it looks like.
5- Cailee started to stir the eggs, with milk added, and she stops and says, "it looks like a flower!" Yes it does! Good eye Cailee!
6- Cailee helps set the table for lunch while Gpa looks on. She was deciding who was going to use what placemat... Gpa almost got stuck with the butterflies, but in the end he got the bugs. Cailee was so nice to give Gpa bugs.
It was fun to have her home today, even if it was because she didn't feel too well.
After the doc, there was a Great Clips nearby that was having a sale. I have not had the best luck with getting her hair cut. This was a different location than I had been to in the past, so I took a chance on getting her hair done. Not sure that was a good idea. Her hair is tricky. It didn't turn out as bad as the last cut, but maybe I'm just blind. I know I'm biased for everything because I wanted Becky in Idaho to do it...
I'm making freezer jam. Again. Cailee keeps telling me how much she loves my jam. She finished my last container last week, so it was time to make more. I made two batches last night, but they didn't set. So my mom and I tried to fix them. This is phase two of batch one. It still didn't set up as well as batch two... but hopefully it will pass Cailee's inspection when she makes her next PB&J sandwich for school... I will be happy to have the approval of a 6 year old. They usually are very honest. I just hope it's not a bad batch because I will hear about it...
